Tuscan Grand Prix Crashes

Lewis Hamilton stands the podium finisher at 2020s Tuscan Grand Prix, a first & last for the six-time formula one champion. His victory comes after eight drivers didn’t finish all 59 Laps at Mugello Circuit, with two substantial crashes involving multiple cars occurring during two of the three-race starts. The 2020 Tuscan Grand Prix had everything supporters could want. There was overtaking, crashes, red flags, safety cars, and multiple race stars.

After the initial race start began on Lap 1, Valtteri Bottas sustained an immediate lead over Lewis Hamilton. That lead was lost after the second race restart on Lap 7, which was prompted after Kimi Raikkonen boxed Pierre Gasly from Alfa Romeo & Romain Grosjean from Haas. This would force the left tyre of Pierre Gasly’s AT-01 to run over the right tyre of Kimi Raikkonen, prompting Gasly’s AlphaTauri to grab air & hit the Max Verstappen. Both Pierre Gasly & Max Verstappen would DNF from this event, marking the 2nd DNF for Verstappen in two weeks. It also marks a first lap loss for Pierre Gasly after winning the Monza Grand Prix on September 6th.

The onslaught of this accident didn’t end with Verstappen & Gasly entering DNF Status. Carlos Sainz would spin after Lance Stroll didn’t provide him with a car length, which led towards Sebastian Vettel breaking his wing. All drivers that didn’t DNF immediately entered the pits, knowing a safety car would be released. Nobody anticipated the red flag, which forced a secondary race start on lap seven. Lewis Hamilton gained a notable lead over Valtteri Bottas during the 2nd start.

The Second Crash

Valtteri Bottas & Lewis Hamilton prompted the second crash that took place at Mugello. Both were swerving their Mercedes W11s slower than average, even after passing the start-finish racing line. Drivers towards the back saw the top grid pass the racing line & sent their vehicles into full throttle. However, when the Mercedes didn’t accelerate, it prompted the back grid into another multi-vehicle crash.

Carlos Sainz from McLaren, Antonio Giovinazzi from Alfa Romeo, Nicholas Latifi from Williams, and Romain Grosjean from Haas were the four drivers most affected from this crash. All three entered DNF Status, with Carlos Sainz taking the most prominent hit & seen rubbing his right-wrist upon returning to the McLaren garage. All drivers were noticeably upset over the proceedings at Mugello Circuit.
